Things I Love This Week

Television:

• Glee: My roommate and I bond over this show...we were late to join the craze, so we have been using Netflix to catch up on the episodes.  For a theater lover like my self, this show offers musical flare, drama, romance, witty dialogue (well, sometimes), twisty plotlines, and crazy characters.

Movies:

• Singing in the Rain: I saw this movie for the first time (I know, I know...why did it take me so long?!?!)  Anyway, I loved it!  Such a great classic and deserve every bit of praise.
• The King's Speech: In honor of the Oscars, I had to put in a note about this film.  This is worthy of the award!  Such a truly great film and a noteworthy performance by Colin Firth.  Someone special to me took me to see this movie and I am thrilled that he knew I would value this experience. 

Short Films:

• Nooma: is a company that houses a series of short films narrated by Rob Bell.  They are each about 10-15 minutes long of sheer brilliance.  Rob Bell takes a specific point about God, Jesus and Christianity and outlines it in these short films, which can be found on their website.  Seriously, check them out!  My favorites so far are: "Kickball," "Lump," "Flame," and "Sunday."    

Music:

• "Only Hope" -Switchfoot:  Such a touching song (featured in A Walk to Remember) that speaks to our desperate need to be connected to our creator.   

Things I Love This Week

Up Coming Trips:
Clemson, SC--I am going to visit one of my sisters, SaraLynn, and I am so excited! She attends Clemson University and I am so proud of her because she graduates very soon! I am driving down with her fiance and my very dear friend, Daniel.

Movies:
Avatar--It comes out tomorrow!!! Seriously, this movie is amazing and I am so excited for it to be on DVD! I must own it ASAP!

Theater:
Reduced Shakespeare Company's The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged-- The Virginia Stage Company and the Virginia Arts Festival are hosting this show at the Wells Theater now through Sunday. I saw it last night and LOVED it!!!! I was laughing non-stop! The script and the 3 actors are brilliantly witty and fun!!! If you have a chance to see this show, I highly recommend it! Please check out their website. The guys in the show are very personable and would love for you the see them and say hi after the show. I even got them to sign my playbill.

LUMP

A very dear friend recommended a short video for me to watch and I found it online. It's called "LUMP" and it's put on by a company called NOOMA. This short film is sharing the message of unconditional love, guilt, hiding and most importantly that no matter what each one of us has done, there is nothing in our past that would make God love us any less...Nothing. I highly encourage you to watch this 10 minute video found on youtube.

Since Virginia has gotten a few inches of snow over the last few days, I decided to share with you my favorite song from on of my favorite Christmas movies; White Christmas.

It's All a Bunch of Hocus Pocus

Halloween season begins when I get the opportunity to watch this Disney classic. "Hocus Pocus" is an awesome Halloween movie which highlights the great workings of Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. Seriosuly, I love them as the Sanderson sisters. And because of this movie (and the brillance of one of my best friends) I want to name my future black cat "Binx."

FAME

I saw "Fame" last night and I loved every "artsy" second of it! My whole life I have been involved in one aspect of arts or another. I danced when I was young up until Middle School and I have been working on theater since High School. Every "Arts" bone in my body tingled as I watched this musical-turned movie event. And it was an "event." The cast was awesome and their talent illuminated the big screen! I adored it and recommend it as a fun night out for all the theater artists, dancers, aspiring film-makers, composers, and musicians out there!

This movie also reminded me how much I miss New York...good thing I am will be there in 9 days! I will exploring my own theatrical roots. I am visiting with artist friends, seeing 2 shows and simply taking in the Big Apple! :)

Movies I REALLY want to see...

Those In Theaters Now:

1- The Ugly Truth...It has Gerard Butler. Enough said.

2- The Time Traveler's Wife...It's a great novel and I am anxiously awaiting how this story goes from paper to film...plus it has Rachel McAdams and I adore her.


Those In Previews:


1- The Blind Side...It is a heart warming story (the preview made me cry) and it has Sandra Bullock who I love.



2- New Moon...I cannot help it...I have been bit by the Twilight Saga bug (or vampire?)

Fireproof

I watched this movie for the first time this past weekend and I am still thinking about it! I just can't help it. It left such an impression. There were some slight "over acting" issues I had, but overall this movie is powerful and poignant. I laughed and cried but more importantly I realized the power of Christ in a marriage. The power of knowing His ultimate love and therefore sharing that love with your spouse. Once I am married, I hope my marriage will have Christ at its center.

I highly recommend this movie! Besides..."The Love Dare" (a book mentioned in the movie) has been working for many married couples! I would love to work with this movie company someday. Using film as a medium to spread the Gospel is such a great idea!

The Breakfast Club

Today I wanted to pay tribute to my favorite movie...



It is a classic 80's movie that has been my favorite ever since I saw it!

I am reading a book called "Sundays at Tiffany's"...which got me to thinking about the appeal of Tiffany's...

We all know and love the Tiffany&Co. turquoise box with the classic white ribbon...


And who could forget the movie starring Audrey Hepburn...




I am now enjoying the book "Sundays at Tiffanys"...




Oh how I long to walk in NYC and see the beautiful displays at Tiffany&Co.

Santa's Helper

This movie is perfect around Christmas! It is especially great for kids of all ages! Here is just a taste of the memorable lines that Buddy says from the movie:

This is my favorite Will Ferrell movie. After watching it, I had so much more admiration for his work as an actor. This proves that he has the capability to be a well rounded actor.

Classic Christmas Movie

The classic Christmas movie, for me, is White Christmas. I have been watching this movie since I can remember. I love this film so much that I even watch it in July. Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye light up the screen with their singing and charm. And what dynamic duo isn't complete without two wonderfully talented women. The Haynes sisters are played by Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen. I simply adore their duet, Sisters. Yes, I do sing along. But my absolute favorite song is when all four of them are on the train and they sing, Snow.

Every year around this time, I tend to watch this movie several times. It is the perfect movie to get into the holiday spirit. There is singing and dancing and a special message about selfless giving of the heart. And who can experience Christmas without Bing's version of, White Christmas? I highly recommend sharing this movie with family and friends.
